CANDLESTICK WEDGE PARK

The Wedge Park Plaza, with dynamic views to the waterfront and Candlestick Point State Recreation Area, is at the center of the Candlestick Point mixed-use district in Southeast San Francisco.

The plaza is a center to retail and residential, a meeting ground for locals and visitors, a crossroads of multiple transit systems, and the gateway to the Candlestick parks system. It has the potential to support diverse programming in its compact space. SITELAB led the public realm programming and arts strategy for Wedge Park and Plaza in collaboration with landscape architects, RHAA, to develop a welcoming space that can provide a place to relax and play amidst the growing new neighborhood.

The programming strategies for Wedge Park respond to patterns within the Bayview and Hunters Point neighborhoods - including elements that can support typical day-to-day activities such as benches and bike parking, to larger contiguous areas that support temporary food festivals and fairs. In this way, the flexible programming builds on seeds already established as well as unmet needs in the community and local context.
